"Not the problem child”

My oncologist used this phrase during most of my check ups while in treatment last year. 

Makes you really think about those who are the “problem child”. Those whose fight seem endless and complicated. Medically unstable or without social support or maybe just hungry.

Perspective. 

That’s why Samantha and I will be raising money for those that are not as fortunate as me. 

For those that can’t afford treatments. For those that can’t afford to take time off of work. For those that can’t afford to feed their families. For those that do not have the means to provide a safe environment for their children. For those that are hungry, for those whose medical and social stability are not promised. For those whose next meal is not promised. For those that have shared mine and my families pain. We run for you. 

Last year, we ran the 7k, 2 months after my last chemotherapy treatment, to raise money and lend our hand in supporting those families suffering. 

This year, On March 24th, 2024, to celebrate 1 year remission, I will be running my first half marathon (with Samantha doing the 7k) and dedicating every mile to help build the new Legacy of Hope Emergency Patient Support Center.

Each week families across Philadelphia with a loved one fighting cancer go hungry, and without the Emergency Patient Support Network, countless cancer patients in Philadelphia will continue facing hunger. Legacy of Hope created the Emergency Patient Support Network in partnership with Philadelphia hospitals to quickly identify financially disadvantaged Philadelphia cancer patients, and provide emergency support; preventing hunger and homelessness. 

The goal is simple: ensure families in Philadelphia with a loved one fighting cancer never go hungry or homeless again. 

Cancer does not discreminate. The same hallway I walked down with my wife and mother by my side, is the same hallway many walk through. Both old and young of every race, color and religion. The folks I rememer most though, are the ones I saw walk alone.  We need to ensure our Philadelphia community has exactly what it needs to have a fighting chance. No one should have to walk alone.
