Several years ago Legacy of Hope was founded in Philadelphia with only a few dollars, but surrounded by people whose energy and determination matched the new organization’s huge vision. In the beginning, it would’ve been easy to discount Legacy of Hope’s lofty vision, but if you’re from Philadelphia you understand the city’s strong community, sense of loyalty, unwavering drive, and capacity to make the seemingly insurmountable, possible. Our bet was simple; Philadelphia would stay true to its ethos, come together, and ensure no cancer patient or family member would go hungry or lose their home because of a cancer diagnosis. Philadelphia did not disappoint. Through a now massive network, over 500,000 healthy meals have been delivered to the homes of cancer patients, preventing hunger for over 3000 cancer patients and families.
While I celebrate the countless businesses, organizations, professionals, and volunteers who make this possible, our work is far from over. The number of cancer patients and family members facing eviction and homelessness, because they are too sick to work, is growing. Just as the Emergency Patient Support Network was created and successfully addresses hunger in Philadelphia’s oncology population, I’m convinced we can and will address housing insecurity for this same population. Legacy of Hope’s goal for PHL24 2023 is to purchase and restore a property, so we can offer rent-free housing to cancer patients and their families until they are able to provide a home for themselves. This will cost approximately $175,000.
On September 9th, for 24 continuous hours, I will climb the Rocky Stairs with several other determined athletes to reach this goal. I promise to never stop, never quit or waver, but I need your help. Please make a donation, share this fundraiser and information, and contact me if you own or manage a business that wants to get involved. Never stop…
