On March 29th, 2026, I am running the Philadelphia Love Run Half Marathon and raising money for an organization called "Legacy of Hope" in honor of Haley Rineer.  Haley’s kindness, humor, beauty, and honesty left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her radiant presence and warm smile could light up any room. Despite her own struggles, she never once complained, always placing the well-being of others before herself. She faced life’s challenges with unwavering strength, love, compassion, and faith, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. I feel incredibly lucky to have had the privilege to meet Haley and become her friend, even for a short period of time.

Legacy of Hope partners with Philadelphia hospitals to quickly identify financially disadvantaged Philadelphia cancer patients and provide emergency support, preventing hunger and homelessness while they navigate this difficult time in their lives. Often described as the "emergency medicine" of patient support, Legacy of Hope steps in when cancer patients and families have exhausted all other resources, and no longer have the capacity to provide themselves with basic necessities. Creating the first platform in Philadelphia to address critical needs in the oncology population, social workers and oncology teams from every hospital and cancer center in the city can place emergency support referrals via the Emergency Patient Support Network. This growing network of partnerships with hospitals, grocery stores, schools, construction companies, Philadelphia Police Department, and local businesses then provide emergency patient support; with a response time of less than 24 hours in the most critical cases.

Haley's family recently published her journal writings into a book called "Angels on Earth." The book is a collection of Haley's journal entries she wrote during her battle with cancer.* The writings display her remarkable faith and relationship with God that sustained her, along with her resolve to live life to the fullest and help others through their struggles. After reading "Angels on Earth" and understanding the call Haley had to serve those around her impacted by similar situations, I immediately thought of Legacy of Hope and how I think Haley would have loved to support an organization like this.
