Hi friends, family, and anyone who hates cancer,

My name is Jake Fanizza, and I’m a third-year medical student. On September 13th to 14th, from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m., I’ll be climbing the Rocky Steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for 24 hours straight as part of the 8th annual PHL24 endurance event, raising money for the incredible organization you’re reading about: Legacy of Hope.

You might be wondering—why would someone do this?

Working in the hospital, it amazes me to see how far cancer treatments have come. Yet, what also amazes me are the immense, major side effects that come with these treatments: Housing insecurity, lack of access to food, and drained financial resources— burdens felt not just patients, but also their parents, siblings, children, and friends.

You’re telling me someone can win the greatest battle of their lives, but be still plagued for these basic needs? Like me, I’m sure many of you have been affected by cancer in some way—and unfortunately, you understand this reality.

This frustration is what brought me to Legacy of Hope. Not only does this amazing organization contribute to cancer research, but more importantly (in my mind), they work every single day to support the army of loved ones standing beside patients in the hardest fight of their lives. To date, Legacy of Hope has prevented hunger and homelessness for over 7,700 cancer patients and family members living in Philadelphia. I promise you—there’s no more badass organization with a more important mission than that.

I’m asking for your help to support this cause.
I pledge to climb the Rocky Steps—for 24 hours—with Legacy of Hope, to fight cancer and support the families still fighting.

My personal goal is to raise $3,000, and our team’s goal is $250,000 to support the David N. April Emergency Patient Support Center. With your help, we’ll continue providing critical support for cancer patients across Philadelphia and Camden—especially when all other resources have been exhausted.
