Hello, my name is Sean Thomson.  I, along with friends John Adamski and John McBride are running 100 miles in 24 hours to raise money for two very special women and Legacy of Hope. The first is John Adamski’s late mother-in-law Joanna Brunkel. The second is my sister-in-law Natalie Tigyer who is currently battling breast CA. Your donations will provide needed and sometimes emergency support to Natalie Tigyer and cancer patients like her across Philadelphia. 

Natalie was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of invasive ductal carcinoma of her left breast.  To our disbelief, Natalie was almost immediately denied by her insurance company for a few of her diagnostic tests recommended by her oncologist.  First was a PET scan used to determine if cancer had spread anywhere else.  She chose, like many others I’m sure, to pay out of pocket in an attempt to alleviate some of the emotional stress attached to any diagnosis of this type.  It’s devastating to imagine adding this additional financial burden to any individual fighting any type of cancer diagnosis.  Shortly after meeting her deductible, Natalie was made aware that she will now be responsible for 30% of all medical tests, procedures, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and any complications that may arise.  Fortunately, with the help of so many kind and caring individuals who have also fought this battle, a payment plan option has been made available to her.  

I immediately felt the urge to help in any way I could to relieve some of this burden, for Natalie and any other families who may not be able to afford the cost of medical bills or other necessities such as food and rent.  We decided running 100 miles in 24 hours would be our approach to attempt to raise this money; challenging our bodies physically in a way that cancer and treatment do to so many.  Emotionally putting ourselves to the test.  Never backing down on the bad miles (days) and continuing to press forward toward the end goal…100 miles or completion of treatment/remission.  This 100-mile challenge feels like merely a fraction of what Natalie and so many others go through daily during treatment.  But the one thing we have in common is that getting through this is the only option…one day/mile at a time until the journey is complete.

We will be running ten 10-mile loops and will be offering running slots every 10 miles.  All loops will begin and end at the No Limit Gym every two hours.  This will allow individuals who signed up to join us at any point in the 24-hour period.
